Frogs are one of nature’s coolest amphibians; they can tell us how healthy an ecosystem, keep bug populations from getting out of control, completely change their bodies in just a few short weeks. But did you know they have an amazing adaptation to survive the winter? They freeze solid!
Dr. Clara do Amaral from Mt. St. Joseph University researches how these amphibians can turn themselves into frogsicles and how understanding frogs better could help humans. She’s a brilliant scientist who is so, so passionate about her work. I feel so lucky to not only get invited into her lab and see her frozen frogs but to go out into a muddy wetland with her to find some specimens myself.
Didn’t realize frogs freeze! Great job! Very interesting.
