While dinosaurs get all the headlines and action movies, trilobites, an ancient crustacean species that resemble modern-day horseshoe crabs, had a decidedly more impressive run. The ruled Earth’s oceans for 250 million years, twice as long as the dinos. And if you live in Cincinnati, the highest concentration of trilobite fossils in the world are right under your feet.

Dr. Brenda Hunda is the curator of invertebrate paleontology at the Cincinnati Museum Center, whose passion for trilobites is as infectious as it is inspiring. Talk with her for more than a few minutes and you’ll be enraptured by her tales of all things that lived hundreds of million years ago.
